I really love the way they tied it all together and Pablo the penguin has always been one of my favorites.

Another scene I absolutely love is the black magic. Mostly because I love laughing at Donald's voice when he speaks the magic words. I laugh every time.

I love Jose and Panchito. They are two of the most charming characters ever. When the three of them interact together, it always reminds me of three brothers who like to prank each other.

The ending completely baffles me. For awhile I thought I had simply just stopped paying attention when I was younger and missed the ending. Then after a few years when I watched it again I realized it just kind of ended. Surprise!

And is it just me, or does the Aracuan Bird remind anyone else of Figment somehow? I'm not sure if it's his voice or something else, but he always gives me Figment vibes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5759137971748822612.post-19371347369438143042010-11-02T23:26:04.623-05:002010-11-02T23:26:04.623-05:00There is a soft spot in my heart for this movie. T...There is a soft spot in my heart for this movie. There is good music and some very interesting stuff going on. I like that its framing device works for the package film. It's not just some barely tied together stuff like Saludos Amigos was. I like that we are eased into the movie, first with obvious shorts from the projector, an then more immersive. Each short gets longer, and more narrative. And we are eased into THAT as well, beginning with the "Aves Rares" stuff where Donald is constantly cut back to in order to provide commentary.

While the live-action/animation stuff is primitive, frankly there are scenes that look much better than Pete's Dragon. That movie always looks flat, like cartoons were just drawn on top of it. While there are some obvious composites in this movie, there are shots that look fabulous, especially for their time. Some of the wide shots where we see them all dancing inside the book look great.

My favorite sequence is probably the absurd bit where Carioca shows Donald how to blow himself up to his normal size again. It's just wonderfully surreal and inventive.

I like Panchito as well (why is he allowed so much gunplay when "Make Mine Music" gets edited??). Unfortunately, once we've gotten to the titular Three Caballeros, the movie doesn't know quite what to do with the three of them. Their magic sarape ride is fun, and the "You'll Belong to My Heart" scene is inventive (though it freaks my sister out). But watching the movie again I was struck by one thing: it's obvious that the animators had NO CLUE how to end this movie. It all devolves into this surreal thing on top of surreal thing, then there's an explosion. And that's the end. It's surprising to me that Three Caballeros hasn't joined the likes of Monty Python and the Holy Grail for most abrupt ending.jon TKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04738915806502002447noreply@blogger.com
